Emergency relief

At Maatram Foundation we firmly believe in doing our bit every time we had encountered a humanitarian crisis through the power of partnership. Through Chennai Floods in 2015, Cyclone Vardah in 2016, Cyclone Gaja 2018 and COVID 2020 we mobilized resources and worked on disaster relief and rehabilitation.

During COVID, we extended financial support to 100+ families of our students on a monthly basis, supplied groceries to 400+ tribal families in Yercaud , 400+ transgender sisters and helped transport 40 guest workers from Andhra Pradesh who were stuck in Thanjavur. Apart from working with tribal families, sending monthly assistance to select families, we have also been working with providing rations and funds to Orphanages, Old age homes, leprosy homes etc.

We partnered with several educational institutions during GAJA cyclone to distribute essentials and meals to 117 affected villages in the delta for 37 days to 2000 people, distributed relief materials to 60,000 people, repaired and repainted about 19 schools and distributed 2500 coconut saplings to farmers to help restore their livelihood.  Special mention about our Trustee Udaya Shankar who received appreciation from the Chief Minister for his amazing work.

During Chennai Floods and Cyclone Vardah, we were actively involved with the various NGO’s and Governmental agencies in collecting and distributing relief materials across Chennai, Cuddalore and other parts of TamilNadu. We distributed Ration kits to 5000 families in Chennai and Cuddalore during cyclone Vardah, 20,000 ration kits  during Chennai floods and helped restore and build homes for many families.

Through the various crises, the most gratifying part for us was to see many of our students extending help to support our community despite their humble means.
